FAQs

  • Osteopathy is a form of manual therapy that focusses on the musculoskeletal system and its connection to overall health. Osteopaths take into consideration the body’s innate ability to heal itself, and consider the whole person during treatment, taking into account their lifestyle, environment and emotional state as well as the physical symptoms.

  • Within Australia an osteopath will undergo a minimum of 4-5 years tertiary study to gain qualification. Osteopaths must be registered with AHPRA to practice within Australia- this is the same governing body that doctors, physios, nurses and other health professionals are registered with. 25 hours of continued professional development is required each year to uphold registration.

  • Osteopathic consults are customised to each individual client. Each consultation will begin by taking a history of your current presentation, followed by a physical examination to formulate a specific treatment plan for you. Your treatment may then involve a variety of techniques ranging from soft tissue therapy, stretching, counterstrain, HVLA (joint manipulation, gentle joint mobilisation and more, to work towards your individual goal. If you have any concerns about anything during treatment, please mention it to your Osteopath!

  • It is best to wear comfortable clothing that you can easily move around in to your appointment.

During treatment the Osteopath will likely need good visibility of the problematic area, so please keep this in mind when choosing clothing.

  • No. Anyone may see an Osteopath with or without a referral as Osteopathy is classed as a primary healthcare service. Referrals from your GP are always welcome and we are happy to work with your GP to provide an individualised management plan for you. You may also ask your GP to find out if you meet the eligibility criteria for Medicare rebated sessions via a Chronic Disease Management Plan.

  • No. You will only receive a rebate from Medicare if you have been referred via a Chronic Disease Management Plan from your GP.

You will then pay for your appointment as per the fee structure, then the Medicare claim will be processed for the $56.00 rebate either online or at the time of your appointment.

  • You may pay for your appointment via Cash or Card.

We also have facilities available to claim Medicare and Private Health rebates. (note: only available if your policy covers Osteopathy as an extra)

  • If your insurance policy includes extras with Osteopathy listed, we are able to process private health insurance rebates under the Osteopathic codes.

If your policy covers Osteopathy, your private health may cover a portion of your consultation costs. This portion is determined by the level of cover you have with your insurer and may vary between companies and policies.

  • If you have any relevant imaging/scans/reports (X-rays, MRI, CT or Ultrasound) you may bring these along to your appointment.

If you are a Chronic Disease Management Patient, or a Department of Veterans Affairs Patient, you will need to bring along your Doctor’s referral along with any other relevant paperwork.

  • All conditions that can affect the body are different, with varying healing times and influencing factors. The number of appointments will vary between individuals and cases.

During your consultation, your Osteopath will take a thorough history and perform an examination to help determine what is causing your presenting complaint, come up with a management plan, and give you an approximate healing time specific to you and your body.
